Sandy Point Beach at Lucky Peak reopens to the public

The Sandy Point swimming pond at Lucky Peak has reopened to the public.

The pond had been closed to the public after samples tested positive for E. Coli. Park staff believe the water situation has improved since the level of the Boise River went down from the near-flood level releases this spring, according to a statement from the Idaho Parks and Recreation.

“The level of the river was higher than the level of the pond,” said Surat Nicol, manager of Lucky Peak State Park. “It was basically acting like a water cork.”

Recent tests have returned clean samples and the park has worked to ensure safe water conditions in advance of the Fourth of July weekend by increasing water flow in the pond and circulation from the Boise River.
